Guidance for consumers and staff
Social Distancing whilst work is in progress.
The Government’s recommendation of keeping two metres apart should be applied stringently. Any time spent closer than two metres must be kept to an absolute minimum. The Government has provided advice on social distancing, for more information visit: https://www.gov.uk.
Separate washing facilities and refreshment stations should be arranged, particularly if anyone in the house has experienced symptoms of COVID-19. Washing your hands regularly is a must.
Fitters/Glaziers will travel to site in separate vehicles and should take their breaks well away from each other.
If anyone living in the home you are working on is part of the particularly vulnerable group who are being shielded from the virus, then the customer must inform Merstham Glass of this, and the fitter/glazier must stop work immediately. See Government advice on vulnerable groups.
Additional precautions for customers and staff.
Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as facemasks, gloves and safety glasses should be worn on site. Disposable equipment should be used if at all possible, even if this increases costs. The HSE has issued advice on using facemasks to avoid transmission of Coronavirus.
Fitters/Glaziers must not accept any refreshments from customers on site.
Good housekeeping and keeping a safe, tidy site is even more important than usual. Tools and equipment should be cleaned and disinfected, at the start and finish of any job, and all materials left tidily. The area of the home that we are working in should be cleaned prior to our arrival on site. Curtains, blinds and any other items E.G furniture, ornaments should be removed so that the area is clear.
Fitters/Glaziers should wipe down/disinfect all working areas before leaving site. Any clothing worn on site should be changed as soon as you get home and washed so as not to harbour viruses.
When should work be stopped?
Customers have a responsibility to inform Merstham Glass if they become unwell, and vice-versa, so that the risk of spreading the virus can be minimised. Good communications are critical for both parties, so do not delay in passing on information, if anyone begins to show symptoms, or has been in contact with others who have the virus.
What if the work has to stop?
The site should be left in as safe and tidy a condition as it can be, until such time as work can resume.
Customers should not be tempted to complete any work themselves, other than the normal finishing tasks such as painting and decorating.
Installation/Glazing Managers should communicate with customers regularly so that everyone is updated on how things are going and any likelihood of works resuming.
Updated 12th May 2020 / Official advice is changing daily, so you should check official sources of information before making any decisions about how to proceed. We are monitoring government guidelines regularly.
